THAKADU RIVER CAMP
Madikwe Game Reserve, North-west Province
Thakadu River Camp is a 24-bed tented camp designed by Chris Rightford and Dave Gurney. The Camp is set within the riverine canopy along the banks of the Marico River in the eastern sector of the Madikwe Game Reserve.
Thakadu River Camp is a wholly-owned, Community-based Tented Safari Camp in the Madikwe Game Reserve. The Tented Camp is an ecotourism partnership between North-West Parks, the Molatedi Community and the operator, The Madikwe Collection. The concept is unique in South Africa in that the community owns the development, with substantial benefits accruing to the community itself.
The Camp comprises 12 tented suites accommodating 24 guests, each tent with its own sliding door opening onto its own viewing deck overlooking the Marico River. The lodge is decorated in an ‘Afro-Asian Safari” feel with the use of natural stone in the main lodge.
Thakadu also has an 8 bed satellite camp, ‘Little Thakadu’, with its own private lounge, dining and pool area ensuring privacy and exclusivity for small groups and families.
